WALDERO - THE OFFICIAL - PUEBLO WEST, COLORADO
Like many of CWOA’s current top level officials, Kirk Waldero came up through the ranks at
a time when the legendary Jerry Moore was actively mentoring young officials. Moore had a sharp eye for spotting young talent and he began helping Waldero early in his career. As a result, Waldero quickly became a high level performer on the mat. Just five years after starting his high school officiating career, Waldero was selected to work his first high school regional. His first CHSAA State Tournament came a few years later in 1996, followed by 22 more state tournaments. He spent ten years officiating at the college level and did his first college regional in 2012. Although he loved officiating at the college
level, Waldero’s college officiating career had to |
come to end in 2014 due to the amount of
time it took him away from family and work. Over the years, Waldero was skilled enough to be selected to officiate some of the top high school tournaments in the nation, including the NHSCA High School Nationals four times and the Reno Tournament of Champions five times. Whenever a member of CWOA is selected to officiate one of these top tournaments, tournament directors and other officials always know that they are getting an official that has worked with and been evaluated by Moore. The feedback and opportunities that Moore provided throughout Waldero’s career helped make him one of the top officials in the country. For that assistance, Waldero is truly thankful!. |

"ROB VERVERS started his high school officiating career in 1990. Two years later he was selected to officiate his first regional tournament. And in 1995, he officiated his first CHSAA High School State Tournament. Ververs was a perennial state tournament selection until 2002, when he took a multi-year sabbatical from calling matches to follow the high school and college wrestling career of his son, Tony Mustari. After returning to active officiating on the mat in 2010, he was selected back to the Colorado Tournament the following season and has returned each year since. Following his return to action, Ververs became a leader and officer in the Colorado Wrestling Officials Association. He served a total of eight years as a voting member on the CWOA Executive Committee, filling the roles of Vice-President, President, and Past-President. He is currently the Executive |
Secretary of the CWOA, while also filling a role as State Wrestling Rules Interpreter. Over the years his reputation for excellence has spread well beyond Colorado. He has been chosen to officiate the NHSCA High School National six times, and has ranked in the top 6 officials or better each year. Ververs has also been invited to officiate the Super 32 tournament in North Carolina and the Best of the East tournament in Delaware. His CWOA colleagues are extremely proud to have him represent them so well across the country. Ververs credits Jerry Moore for being the most influential person in his officiating career. Moore provided him both opportunities and invaluable feedback. “There is no way I would have achieved the success I have without Jerry’s influence. Jerry, I appreciate you” said Ververs." |
